Rediscovering My Voice
“I know there is strength in the differences between us. I know there is comfort where we overlap.” - Ani DiFranco
The issue isn't distribution itself, but rather the democratization of distribution that has removed barriers, making it easier for content creators to weaponize our innate human qualities. Our empathy, intuition, and ability to connect with others are being used to fuel hatred instead of love.
Facebook and TikTok are not the problem. Many people hide behind anonymity to attack those who have the courage to express themselves authentically. In a world where cruelty and violence are pervasive, finding and creating a community of kindhearted and likeminded individuals can be challenging.
So, I made the painful decision to leave platforms like Facebook and Twitter, hoping to escape the negativity. However, my departure didn't silence those spreading hate; instead, it amplified their voices.
My absence created a vacuum, and people's timelines were filled with hate rather than the love I spread.
I know this to be true: What was holding me back were the things I clung onto.
Sometimes we forget that to Breathe, Eat and sleep are the most essential task of human existence.
Often, when we make decisions, we feel compelled to convince ourselves that they're the right ones. But true honesty with ourselves means acknowledging when we don't have all the answers. It's okay to admit, "I don't know yet."
It's a simple but profound shift in perspective.
To encounter something new, you must be willing to let go of the old. Release what no longer serves you to make space for something better.
